From registration to actual use - step by step
Sign up at Perplexity.ai, then click "Upgrade to Pro" in settings. Pro is $20/month or $200/year, with access to GPT-4o, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Sonar, and other premium models.
Go to SubscribeAnnual billing saves $40/year and includes 600 Pro searches/day, unlimited file uploads, and premium model access. Highly recommended for researchers.
Click the model name below the search box to switch: Claude 3.5 Sonnet for long text, GPT-4o for reasoning, Sonar Large for real-time search. Click "Focus" to scope searches (Academic, Reddit, YouTube, etc.).
Switch to "Academic" Focus for research — only searches Semantic Scholar, PubMed, and other scholarly sources, avoiding blog noise.
Click the "Pro" button next to the search box for deep search mode. AI performs multi-step reasoning: decompose → sub-queries → multi-source verification → synthesis. Takes 2-3 min with detailed citations.
For complex research questions (e.g., "current applications of X in industry Y"), always use Pro Search for multi-source coverage and cross-verification.
Click "Save" next to search results to add conversations to a Collection. Organize by project topic, invite members to collaborate. Pro users get unlimited Collections.
Save all Pro searches for a project in one Collection — subsequent AI answers will be more contextually coherent.
