From registration to actual use - step by step
Anytype is a decentralized, local-first knowledge manager — no account registration required. Download from the official site, create a Space on first launch, and generate an encrypted recovery phrase.
Download AnytypeThe recovery phrase is your only credential — save it offline (paper or password manager). Lost phrases cannot be recovered.
Anytype's basic unit is an Object, each with a Type: Book, Note, Task, Person, etc. In any Space, click "+" to create an object; type "/" to select type and add custom properties.
Customize types in "Object Types" (e.g. a "Client" type with name, company, industry, follow-up date) for a lightweight CRM.
Add Relation properties (e.g. "Author", "Tags") to objects. Create Sets to aggregate all objects of a type — like database views with Board, Gallery, List layouts.
Use "Link to" object property to build relations; combined with Graph view, you get a full knowledge network similar to Obsidian's graph.
Anytype uses P2P sync — no central server. In Settings → Sync, enable Backup to Anytype nodes (free) or self-hosted nodes. Invite others to join Spaces for encrypted collaboration.
Invite members in Space settings with Owner/Editor/Viewer permissions; data is end-to-end encrypted, so even team members can't decrypt others' private spaces.
